A close game the entire way through, Northview found points from Houston in the second half and held off a late push by Lowell to secure the win.
“We were never really comfortable,” Northview coach Trevor Chalmers said. “But at least we played with a five to eight point lead in the second half which gave us that cushion.”
Northview had trouble converting in the first half and Lowell kept it close.
“I thought we struggled a bit in the first,” Chalmers said. “”We didn’t finish opportunities like we normally do. We focused on playing a better second half and I thought we did.”
There were some little things that helped Northview as well.
“We got some steals and some easy opportunities,” Chalmers said. “We were able to get some baskets driving to the bucket and others on penetration and we hit a couple big threes.”
Northview plays Forest Hills Central Friday for the district crown.
“We’ve seen them,” Chalmers said. “I used to be on coach (Ken) George’s staff and he’s had some good teams. This team is extremely talented with Tillman as the anchor and great guards. You have to defend inside and make sure you are doing a good job on the perimeter.”
Matt Beachler scored 19 points for Lowell. Despite the loss, Lowell had its best season in 31 years.
