Lowell girls basketball had a turnaround in the second half and came back from a seven-point deficit after the first quarter to earn a 50-43 victory over Grand Rapids Northview Tuesday night.
Aubreigh Steed led Lowell with 14 points and Kate Montgomery scored 11 points with six rebounds and two assists on the night.
“For us, it came down to just making our shots,” Lowell coach Jake Strotheide said. “The shots we wanted weren’t going in early and we were lucky enough to get some of those shots to fall in the second half. It’s the best game we’ve played this year as a team.”
Lowell was 1-of-8 from the free-throw line in the first quarter, but the offense picked up in the second quarter to help the team go up by one at the half.
Emma VanZanten led Northview with 17 points and eight rebounds, helping the Wildcats to jump out to a 12-5 lead after the first quarter.
Lowell will face Greenville on Friday.
“I’m really excited that our girls are trying to improve every day,” Strotheide commented. “I really think our bench is getting deeper, to the point where we can compete with other teams more consistently.”
