Allegan girls tennis team wins six titles to hold off Grand Rapids Northivew and capture Allegan Early Bird Invitational on Saturday

Host Allegan captured their own Early Bird Invitational title on Saturday on the back of six flight champions.
Abbey Dekinga defeated Gabby Jensen of Petoskey to win the second singles flight, 6-0, 6-0, while Federico Vezaani rallied to defeat Bridget Silha of Grand Rapids Northview 0-6, 6-2, 6-4 to win the third singles flight for Allegan.
Doubles teams in the first (Christin Drozd/Kaycee Harness), third (Taylor Orr/Carlie VanKlompenberg), fourth (Holly Hagerty/Karlie Wells), and fifth (Alyssa Hopkins/Alyssa Owisany) also won flights for Allegan.
“This was our first competition, and it was nice to see the girls in action so we could see where we stood,” Allegan coach Jen Aldrich said. “Overall, I’m very pleased with how we performed and especially with the title.”
Second place Northview had two champions, Claire Stams in the fourth singles flight with a win over Sydney Chambers of Petoskey(7-5, 6-4), and the second doubles flight team of Barbara Baric and Savannah Smith, which defeated Em Gorby and Blake Day of Allegan 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.
Meika Ashby was the lone title-winner for Kalamazoo Hackett, defeating Liv Christman of Allegan 6-0, 6-0 to win the first singles flight.
